Mel Gibson’s DUI Expunged in California
A 1996 DUI conviction for actor Mel Gibson has been expunged by a California judge. Gibson, 53, was arrested in July of 2006 and charged with a DUI in Malibu, California. In the now infamous incident, Gibson directed profanities and anti-Semitic remarks towards the arresting officers.
Gibson completed all of the conditions of his sentencing, which included 3 years of probation, public service work, and he did not have any other alcohol related offense during that time period. It has also been reported that he joined an AA program and was an active participant. California law allows a judge to clear a person’s record once they complete all conditions of the imposed sentencing convictions.
Unfortunately, Washington state does not have a similar law regarding being able to expunge a Washington DUI conviction. Under WA State DUI law, a conviction for drunk driving cannot be vacated or expunged. It remains on a person’s personal criminal history for their entire life as an actual conviction.
In part, this is because Washington has kind of unique DUI sentencing structure. It’s based in part on prior DUI convictions over the last seven years. Say, if you are looking for a good Seattle DUI attorney, you should try giving the Law Offices of Jason S. Newcombe a call. They have the resources and the experience to successfully resolve your Seattle Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants case, regardless of the circumstances surrounding your arrest.
