LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

18th Annual Construction Law Conference

March 3 & 4, 2005

San Antonio, Texas

RICHARD GARY THOMAS

THOMAS, FELDMAN & WILSHUSEN, LLP
Dallas, Texas

ABSTRACT

The 79th Legislative Session is off to a start. March 11, 2005 is the deadline for filing bills and joint resolutions other than local bills, emergency appropriations, and bills that have been declared an emergency by the Governor. There were already approximately 3,335 bills filed as of Friday, February 25, 2005. There are an average of eight to nine thousand bills filed every legislative session. A number of bills directly (or indirectly) affect the construction industry. Unfortunately, the timing of this conference does not permit an overview of all the bills that will be filed during this current session. However, there are a number of bills already on file that are of interest to the construction industry and which are summarized briefly below. For more information on obtaining information on certain bills, or legislation in general, refer to the material in the attached appendix.
